This past weekend took the kiddos and I to G&G’s house, but R&R was definitely not in the equation. It was go go go!
The kiddos spent the whole day out and about with a very adventurous Papa as Grandma and I needed the house to ourselves for several projects. G&G have lots of visits from all the grand-kids so they have (graciously) held memberships to the Milwaukee Zoo, The Art Museum, Discovery World and the Milwaukee Public Museum. It makes a great trip when all we need to do is check out what the weather is like, and then have a Saturday full of fun things to do and see.
First up for the kids was a trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum for the Scoop on Poop exhibit which also provided me the best bribery material for the boy ever. This picture is priceless!
Then they were onto Discovery World for an afternoon chocked full of cool activities. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Discovery World, check it out! So many things to do and not enough time to do them all!
First up was a drive out to see some dear family friends. A few years ago it was these great folks that gave us our chicken coop and they have been one of the largest flower and produce benefactors for our family through the years. The hubby met ‘the flower lady’ years ago at work and a great friendship was formed thru mutual love of food and homesteading. The flower lady’s hubby, ‘Mr. Green Thumb’, has a vegetable garden to make the weak at heart swoon at the knees. These two get what means to ‘eat the season’ and boy their garden was bursting at the seams. The boy ate his weight in raspberries and both kiddos enjoyed picking their own apples and foraging. The flower lady sent us home with a bounty of lovely yum yums and we wasted no time in putting them to good use for dinner. What you don’t see in the picture is about a gross of tomatillos that will be made into fantastic salsa and a huge bag of pea shoots. We are truly blessed to have this family in our lives!
On the way home, we decided to check out a new apple orchard to see what they had going on. Sutter’s Ridge did not disappoint as they have tons of activities for families, but the kiddos has their sites on one thing…and one thing only…..
Our family is cuckoo for Punkin Chunkin and the month of October always brings some pretty interesting shows on the subject.
But man, if you hit a target with an apple just right…it is pretty awesome!
